Everyone has either had a Jetta, or knew someone with a Jetta. For me, it was surprisingly neither. The closest I had was one of my best friends girlfriend owned a 2002 Beetle, with the same motor. Sadly she had horrible luck with hers, but I have had much better luck with my Jetta.

So, off to the Pros and Cons of this car

Having a first year Jetta, it means that all of the smog garbage on the later ones doesnt exist, which just means there is less to break.
It has a surprisingly decent paint job for being a car thats now old enough to go to the bars.
Its extremely easy to drive.

Its a Volkswagen, and at that, a German (Mexican made) car. these things are electrical nightmares.
It is true, the interior smells like crayons.
My particular car, has nearly no options. The only one it has is the better sound system in it.
Mine has been broken into twice now.
The shifter, while alright, is super awkward. I cant really tell what gear I am in, and the clutch is odd too, but it isnt too odd to where you dont know where the bite point is.

Now, heres more information about my car. I purchased the car for $500 off a family friend, as I was in need of my "first" car. First car with a title that is. The entire engine has been rebuilt not even 10k miles ago, and has an extensive repair history. Hell, the car even came with the original owners manual, and dealership reports of the car going from 1999, to when the PO bought it in 2013. Yes, this car is only a 3 owner specimen! Including me as well, of course. The car currently sits at 194,000 miles, has a rattly and leaky exhaust, desperate need of an interior detail, I need to figure out the wiring for the radio so I can blare my music on the speakers that were purchased on Wish, the trunk doesnt open, theres a golfball size hole right above the VW logo on the hood, and the ebrake isnt exactly in functional order either. however, this car was cheap, will get decent gas mileage if you so please, and has been dead reliable. I just cant really recommend anyone to own one, as these things are wiring nightmares. Oh, and have I mentioned that mine doesnt even have a light on the dash? Besides the airbag light of course, as the clockspring needs replacing, so the horn doesnt work as well.
